Toronto-area companies show off their cleantech

In November 2010, Zerofootprint entered the TALKINGplug into ClimateSpark - an online venture capital contest launched by the Toronto Atmospheric Fund that was designed to shine a light on innovative green business ideas for a chance to win funding up to $15 million. The TALKINGplug enters round two as the top-ranked submission as voted by the ClimateSpark community.

Dozens of companies registered for this social networking experiment, and over the past two months they have put themselves through interactive public scrutiny. They posted profiles, answered questions, opened up to expert review, and lobbied hard for community support in hopes of making it to the second round.

Call it Cleantech Idol.

Round One closed Sunday and the top nine – ranked by the number of points they earned through comments and reviews – have entered a much shorter second round, during which they will be more closely examined by an expert panel.
